Today was pathology which means any variant or deviant condition than normal.....which translates into basically all that can go wrong before, during and after a birth.
There are two younger gals in our group that have no children, I felt sorry for them today. Every so often they glanced at each other as if to say "are you thinking what I'm thinking?....NEVER."
I discovered a lot today about my own birthing experiences. Josh and Judah were born 17 and 15 years ago.... that's long enough ago to see that various schools of thought have come and gone and for there to be new research and discoveries.
For instance there is research now that links babies who are born with the vaacum extraction with children and adults who are particularly sensitive to sounds. Fascinating when you have a child who is constantly irritated by various noises that are normal to the rest of mankind and who happened to be born with the vacuum extraction. Not that this information helps him but it does some how help me.
I'll save you the details of what I learned about the pathology of my own birth experiences but I will say that it is good to re-interpret them with the knowledge I am acquiring now.
Next week is our midwifery exam.....and then I'll be able to share my grades with the boys for a change!!
Quote of the day:
"When I became a delivery nurse (kraamverzorgster) I thought I knew a lot,
when I became a midwife I knew there was much I didn't know,
when I became a mother and felt I knew nothing,
when I became a grandmother I was happy with all I knew."
Wilma our midwife teacher-
Very interesting. Love it. You go girl!
ReplyDeleteCool to know about the vaccuum extraction link with noise... Debora the same. But we all 'suffer' from this once in a while, especially when we are tired. It has to do with our being High Sensitive People...
ReplyDeleteSo you never know, you might have one of those HSP's in the house too :D
